Do Kanto tastes suit Kanto people? [Gofuken]
この数日、SNSでの広告が上がっているのが町中華チェーンの伍福軒。「東京背脂黒醤油」と言うブランドメニューだ。毎日見かけるのでずっと気になっていたし、大宮駅の東口そばにもこのお店があるので、家で仕事を片付けたあと早速行ってみた。
In the past few days, advertisements on social networking sites have been going up for the Machinuka chain Gofukuken. It’s a branded menu item called ‘Tokyo Back Fat Black Soy Sauce’. I’ve been curious about it because I see it every day, and there’s also a restaurant near the east exit of Omiya station, so I went there as soon as I finished work at home.

テーブルに掲げられたQRコードをスマホで読み込み料理を注文。餃子が半額キャンペーンを継続中とスタッフから言われてこれも注文。やってきたラーメンと背脂黒チャーハン(ミニ)がやってきた。
Read the QR code on the table with your phone and order your food. The staff told me that the half-price gyoza campaign was still on, so I ordered this as well. The ramen and back fat black fried rice (mini) arrived.


肝心の味付けは…むむむ?なんか塩っぱいぞ!?いや、冗談抜きに塩っぱい。生まれつき関東で育ったため塩っぱい料理に慣れていたが、20年近く素材の味を生かし、優しい味付けの広東で過ごして帰国した後はしばらく日本料理が食べられなくなった。醤油味が強すぎるのだ。
今回、周りのお客さんを見ると普通に美味しそうに食べているので、これは私の味覚の問題なのだろうか。
店に入ったときに漂う懐かしい醤油スープの匂いで一瞬期待をしたが、私の味覚とお店の味がミスマッチだったことはすこぶる残念だ。話は変わるが、関西ではホテル朝食のうどんスープは絶品でした。
The key flavour is… mmmm? Something salty! No, I’m not kidding, it’s salty. Having been born and raised in the Kanto region, I was used to salty food, but after spending nearly 20 years in Canton, which makes the most of the flavours of its ingredients and uses gentle seasoning, I couldn’t eat Japanese food for a while after returning to Japan. The taste of soy sauce is too strong.
This time, when I looked at the customers around me, they seemed to enjoy the food normally, so I wondered if this was a problem with my taste buds.
When I entered the restaurant, the nostalgic smell of soy sauce broth in the air gave me high hopes for a moment, but I was very disappointed that my taste buds and the restaurant’s taste were a mismatch. On a different note, the udon soup at hotel breakfasts in the Kansai region was excellent.
