The photo below shows the ‘Kumon’ gate in front of Kanazawa Station. This gate, designed in the shape of a drum used in the traditional Japanese performing art of Noh, welcomes visitors to the city.

As well as craft shops, there are plenty of sweet shops, so I recommend taking a break to enjoy some delicious Hokuriku sweets. Come evening, the streetlights further enhance the atmospheric charm.

However, it is the nodoguro that is particularly famous. Although it is considered a luxury fish by Japanese standards, you simply must try it whilst you’re in Kanazawa. With its rich, savoury flavour, nodoguro is delicious whether served as sashimi or grilled.
